Which airport should I go to?

All international flights arrive at Piarco International Airport (POS), located approximately 15–20 minutes from the UWI St. Augustine Campus.

Do I need a visa to enter Trinidad & Tobago?

Visa requirements vary by nationality. Please check with the nearest Trinidad & Tobago consulate or official immigration website before travel: Visa Requirements | Trinidad and Tobago

Is parking available on campus?

Yes, but parking passes may be required. Details will be provided closer to the event.

Should I rent a car?

Please note that driving is on the left side.

What is the best way to get from the airport to my hotel?

What is the best way to get to the conference venue from my hotel?

Transportation will be provided to and from the following hotels twice daily:

Accommodation

Are special rates for accommodation at selected hotels available?

The AITVM-STVM organizing committee has arranged special rates at the following establishments. Please email the establishment directly and state that you are asking for the AITVM-STVM 2026 conference rate.

The following hotels are also recommended however, standard rates may apply please mention that you are registering for AITVM-STVM 2026 conference.

How far are hotels from the campus?

Most recommended hotels are within 5–25 minutes by car.

Is on-campus accommodation available?

On campus accommodation is not available.

Food & Dining

Will meals be provided during the conference?

Please refer to the conference program. Typically:

Coffee breaks are provided
Lunch will be included (where stated)

Are there food options on campus?

Yes, UWI campus has:

Cafeterias (Roti shop, Arabian cuisine)
Food courts (Subway, KFC, Mario’s Pizza, Pita Pit)
Local vendors
Coffee shops (Rituals)

Are there vegetarian, vegan, or halal options available?

Most restaurants and campus food outlets offer vegetarian options. Please indicate dietary restrictions during registration.

What local foods should I try?

Doubles, Roti, Bake & Shark, Aloo pies, Pholourie

Currency & Payments

What currency is used?

Trinidad & Tobago Dollar (TTD). Many establishments also accept USD, with an exchange rate around $7 TTD for $1 USD. 

Can I use US dollars?

Some businesses accept USD, but change is usually given in TTD. Credit/Debit cards are widely accepted in hotels and major establishments. 

Are ATMs available?

Yes, including on campus and at nearby shopping centers.

Weather & Dress Code

What is the weather like?

Trinidad has a tropical climate: warm year-round (24–32°C / 75–90°F), humid, occasional rainfall (a small umbrella may be useful). 

What should I wear?

Light, breathable clothing. Business or business-casual attire for the conference. Light jacket for air-conditioned rooms.

Connectivity

Will Wi-Fi be available?

Yes, Wi-Fi will be available on campus for registered attendees. 

Should I get a local SIM card?

For longer stays, a local SIM card (Digicel or Bmobile) may be helpful. There is also the option of eSIMs.

Safety & Security

Is Trinidad safe for visitors?

Like any destination, safety depends on awareness and location. UWI St. Augustine is generally considered a safe academic environment.

  • Avoid displaying valuables
  • Use registered taxis
  • Avoid walking alone late at night
  • Stay in recommended areas 

Are there areas I should avoid?

Visitors should avoid unfamiliar neighbourhoods, especially at night. Stick to recommended accommodation zones. 

Is campus security present?

Yes. UWI has on-campus security personnel and controlled access points.
