About the Conference
The Department of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, in partnership with John Hopkins University, Connected Worlds, and the Université des Antilles, will be hosting the Oliver Cromwell Cox Conference April 2024, under the theme of ‘Caste, Class, and Race, at the Learning Resource Centre, of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus.
The conference has attracted scholars and sociologists from across the Canada, Caribbean, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, and the United States. Some of the key themes will include:
(i) Race, Class and Capitalism
(ii) Race, Gender and Caste
(iii) Global Decoloniality
(iv) Labour Theory and Capitalism
(v) Gender, Caste, and Reproductive rights
(vi) Africana World Systems
(vii) Pioneers of Caribbean Sociology
The conference will be held over two days, April 26-27, 2024, at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago, with an opening ceremony on April 25, from 5:00 pm to 8.00 p.m. at the Learning Resource Centre. The opening ceremony will be live streamed.
Who should attend? Researchers/scholars Tertiary level students Secondary level students, policymakers, as well as persons interested in sociology, gender studies, intersectionality, Caribbean History and Globalization Studies.
