
Sonal Sharma

Sonal Sharma is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (USA). He is currently working on his doctoral research 'Class Compromise and Informal Sector Workers in the Global South: The Case of Domestic Workers' Legal Rights in India and South Africa' which is funded by the International Dissertation Research Fellowship (SSRC) and the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS). Broadly, he is interested in how intersection of race, caste, and gender shape labor politics in the Global South. The focus on the experiences of paid domestic workers has been a part of Sharma's deep engagement with the issue of domestic workers' rights for more than a decade, particularly in India. Sharma has published in journals like Critical Sociology, South Asian History and Culture, Global Labor Journal and Economic and Political Weekly.
