Professor Shihan de Silva Jayasuriya, FRAS, a Senior Research Fellow (Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London), a Senior Associate (Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge), a Collaborative Researcher (Department of Sociology, University of Colombo), a Visiting Professor (Faculty of International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan) and a Visiting Fellow (International Institute of Social History, Amsterdam). Among her accolades are the Rama Watumull Collaborative Lecture Series award from the Center for South Asian Studies & Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity Award (University of Hawaii). She explores migration, commerce, and cultural exchange in the Indian Ocean; African, Malay, and Portuguese diasporas within a historical, linguistic, and ethnomusicological frame. Her publications include African Identity in Asia, African Diaspora in Asian Trade Routes and Cultural Memories, The African Diaspora in the Indian Ocean and the Portuguese in the East and Music of Afro-Asians.
