An activist in the Caribbean women\u2019s movement for many years, she is currently an Executive Committee member of the International Sociological Association. With numerous publications, including nine books (two award-winning), and over eighty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, she received the UWI Vice Chancellor\u2019s Award for All-Round Excellence in Teaching and Administration, Research and Public Service, in 2002, the Triennial CARICOM1 Award for Women 2002, a distinguished Fulbright New Century Scholars Award in 2005-2006; and an honorary doctorate from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, 2012.
