Information for Attendees

Dear Participant


We looking forward to your participation in the upcoming Biennial Regional Conference and EXPO 2019 on Chemical Science, Technology and Industry from May 22 to May 24, 2019 at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago. Accordingly we would like for you to note the following as you prepare to attend the conference:

  • Via the conference webpage: http://conferences.sta.uwi.edu/brcce/, complete your online registration, payment of fees (conference and reception) by Wednesday May 15, 2019. Invited speakers are exempted from fees.
  •  If you are traveling from overseas ensure you have confirmed travel itinerary, hotel accommodation and airport pickup. Arrangements for invited speakers have been confirmed.
  • Meeting Venue
    • The conference and EXPO will take place at the Teaching and Learning Complex (TLC) (see map online)
    • Oral Session: Lecture theatre A1 (LTA1)
    • Poster Session: First floor
    • EXPO: ground and first floors
    • Dining Hall: ground floor
  • Check-in and Registration
    • All participants must check-in at the Arrival and Welcome Desk at the entrance on the ground floor of the TLC venue before proceeding to the Registration Desk.
    • At the Registration Desk on the first floor (outside LTA1) all participants must confirm their registration, receive a conference package including programme guide and book of abstracts and Name Tag.
    • Name Tags must be worn at all times during the conference.
  • Oral Sessions
    • Plenary lectures will be allocated 40 minutes including time for Q/A.
    • Sessional (invited) lectures will be allocated 30 minutes including time for Q/A.
    • General lectures will be allocated 20 minutes including Q/A.
    • Presenters have the option of using a flash drive or their laptop for their presentations. Presenters must check prior to their session with the tech support for compatibility with the AV system. Your allotted time will include any time for setting up of your presentation.
    • A prize will be given to the best student presentation.
  • Poster Session
    • Poster check-in must be done at the Registration Desk. The presenter must be an author of the poster and registered attendee.
    • Each poster has been preassigned to a numbered space and will be identified with the number of the paper (e.g. P101) and the presenting author’s name.
    • Posters should be mounted with pushpins, which are available in the Poster Hall (see TLC map).
    • To facilitate the general exhibit of the EXPO, posters should be mounted during the entire period of the conference but the Poster Session is scheduled for Thursday 23rd from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Poster must be removed at the end of the conference on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
    • During the Poster Session presenters authors must be present.
    • Student posters will be judged and prizes given for 1st to 3rd place.
  • Conference Reception
    • This will be on Friday 24th at 5:00 p.m. at the University Inn and Conference Centre next door the TLC (see map).
    • Payment must be made online to confirm attendance.
  • Food Services and Dining
    • Attendees are responsible for their own meals.
    • There will be a designated Dining Hall on the ground floor (see TLC map) with several food vendors for purchase and dining. Other food vendors will be available on the outside of the TLC in the designated Kiosks. Other dining options are available at the Student Activities Centre on campus (see campus map).
  • EXPO Exhibit
    • There will be a general exhibit of companies and agencies as part of the FST Week.
    • Programme Guide will list the various exhibitors.
    • The EXPO is open to the Public.
  • Other Things to Know
    • Recording of presentations is strictly prohibited.
    • Free parking will be on the UWI campus at the Heartease Carpark across from the TLC venue.
    • Various taxi services are available in TT; if you need help, you can get from the Arrival and Welcome Desk.
    • Participants must adhere to use of building protocols of the TLC.
    • Campus services such as ATMs, food courts, etc. are available at the Student Activity Centre on campus (see campus map).
    • Lost and Found items may be brought to the Arrival and Welcome or Registration Desks. Found items will be lodged with the Security/TLC office at the end of the week.
